Everything a shoe can be when it starts with your foot.

Five chapters on how a pair is measured, shaped, built and stood behind. Read as much or as little as you like.

01 How can it fit without a fitting? Because the shape comes first. Every pair is anatomical, cut to the actual outline of your foot rather than to a tapered fashion last, so the toe box follows your toes and the waist follows your arch. Two photos give us length, width, girth, instep height and heel volume for each foot, and a last is carved to those numbers alone. Anatomical fit Take measurements
02 What if shoes never fit you? Wide, narrow, asymmetric, bunions, high instep, orthotics. The specific cases where a stock last fails, what changes when the last is built from your own geometry, and where we are honest that you need a clinician rather than a cobbler. Read the cases
03 What is actually in the shoe? A board lasted sneaker with a natural cork bed, a Vibram outsole cut by hand to your own outline, and vegetable tanned leather above it. Leather grades explained, construction explained, and a clear read on which engineered materials earn their place. The material guide
04 What does custom ask of you? Patience, mostly. Four to six weeks while a pair is cut and built by hand for one person. Here is the full comparison against a good retail shoe, stage by stage, so you know exactly what you are waiting for. The comparison
05 And if it still isn't right? Tell us where. We adjust your last, record the change against your file so it carries into every pair you ever order, and build it again at our cost. Two corrections per pair, sixty days, no argument. The fit guarantee

Our philosophy

The shoe industry standardised sizing in the 1880s. The moulds haven't changed much since. Your feet have their own geometry. We build to that.

Standard sizing is a compromise. Every pair we make starts with two quick photos of both your feet, capturing length, width, arch, volume, and asymmetry. No two pairs are ever the same.

Then the materials: vegetable-tanned leather, suede, hemp, or wool for the upper. Cork or EVA for the midsole. Vibram natural rubber for the sole. Each chosen because it works.

Construction

A lasted sneaker, built the way small workshops have always built them. Your upper is pulled over your own last and board lasted, the cavity filled with natural cork that takes the print of your foot and holds it. The Vibram outsole is then cut by hand to the outline of your last and cemented.

Two ways to stand: Vibram alone, close to the ground, or Vibram over a cork midsole that compresses into your footprint in the first month and stays there. Both zero drop.

Cut rather than moulded, because a mould is made for one size and one shape. You are not a size. It is the same method bespoke and orthopaedic workshops use, and it is the reason any competent cobbler can resole these. We keep your last on file, so the new sole is cut to the same geometry as the first.

Questions

Custom shoes, answered.

What are custom size shoes, exactly?

Custom size shoes are built to the exact dimensions of your own feet instead of a standard size chart. At cobbler.fit you scan your feet with your phone, and we hand-build a pair around that precise 3D shape, including the difference between your left and right foot, which no off-the-shelf size accounts for.

What does "bespoke shoes" mean at cobbler.fit?

Bespoke means made specifically for you, from scratch, rather than adjusted from an existing size. Every cobbler.fit pair starts from your foot scan and is hand-cut and assembled to order by skilled shoemakers in Portugal, so no two pairs are identical.

How does the foot scan work?

You take two photos of your feet using the guided scanner in your browser or phone. That becomes a precise 3D model of your foot shape, which we use as the template for cutting and building your shoes. No in-person fitting, no size chart.

How long does it take to get custom-made shoes?

Most pairs take 4 to 6 weeks. Each shoe is made to order by hand in small, family-run Portuguese workshops, so we don't keep pre-made stock. Your build starts only after you scan and design your pair.

What if my custom shoes don't fit right?

Reach out and we'll make it right. Because every pair is built from your own scan rather than a generic size, fit issues are rare. If something is off, we adjust your last and build it again at our cost.

Where are cobbler.fit shoes made?

In Portugal, across a network of small, family-owned workshops with generations of shoemaking experience, rather than a factory production line. Every pair is handmade to order from your foot scan.

Shoes made for your feet. Exactly your feet.

We're just launching, so every pair is a preorder, built by hand, one pair at a time.
